Andrew L. Yarrow is vice president and Washington director of Public Agenda, and teaches modern U.S. history at American University. A longtime former reporter for the New York Times, Dr. Yarrow has published extensively during the last 25 years, including Latecomers: Children of Parents Over 35, frequent op-eds, and many popular and scholarly articles.

If you want to understand why Government debt is bad for your country, this is a great read.
The only reason I did not give it five stars is I was already well read on the topic before reading this book, so it got a little tedious for me.
However someone new to the topic would find this book a complete read on the topic.

The Debt problem and Congress

Fellow citizens. Please read this book and start voting for members of congress and presidential candidates committed to reforming the tax code in order to simplfy it and raise more revenu. We must also cut spending and reform entitlement programs: social security, medicare, and medicaid in a way that we private citizens assume responsibility for our own health care and our own retirement. Everyone should pay some taxes and everyone needs to work, if they are physically and/or mentally able.
Let's get started in 2012. We have no time to loose. The unfunded liabilities of entitlements and the dependence on foreign oil and creditors to buy our bonds will eventually crush us or make us citizens of Commuinist China or Wahabite Saudi Arabia if we do nothing. If you believe like Patrick Henry, who said: give me liberty or give me death, becoming citizens of either China or Saudi Arabia is not an option!
We cannot keep spending more than we earn or take in from taxes. Think about that the next time you ask the government to do something for you and you go to the polls to elect someone asking for your vote.
