A careful reading of the New Testament shows great differences among the twelve men first called by Jesus to follow him. It also shows a considerable variety of outlook among Christians and among Christian congregations. One result is that there are four gospels, not one. If you read a letter by St. Paul, and then the letter of St. James, you might be forgiven for wondering whether the same religion is being described. In Paul's letter to the Galatians, he recalls a fierce argument with Peter: "I opposed him to his face, because he was clearly in the wrong" (2:11). The religion of the New Testament was not uniform, and there is no good reason why Christianity today should be.

General and helpful
By A Customer
This book is aimed at people who aren't sure whether they believe in God, or what the Episcopal Church is about. It takes the reader step-by-step through the resons for believing in God, with a definite Anglican point of view, but does not do a great job of pointing out how Anglicans differ from other Christians. Still, it was interesting and helpful even for someone who already knew a fair amount about the episcopal Church.

not that great!
By JPeter
This book takes a liberal view point that the Episcopal Church adopted after the 1950's. It has an extreme view of evolution and treats homosexuality and abortion as something other than sin. If your looking for God's changeless truth you will not find it here. This book does not do a great job on showing how Anglicans are any different from any other Christian. This book treated the Nicene Creed like a nonessential thing that a bunch of apes sitting around a fire came to the conclusion was true. This is not a book that represents the catholic faith that Anglicanism is part of. If your looking for historic Anglicanism or are part of the continueing Anglican movement then you will be dissappointed by this book.

Please no candy
By George
The book is written in a clear style but its like candy you can either put it in your mouth and its taste good but nothing is left or you can put it in your hands and find a sticky mess. It is the product of confused church community trying to reason away what is going wrong. If I want this type of logic, I will be off to see the wizard and follow the yellow brick road.
